Official BioEdit

The bar's ray of sunshine, bringing warm smiles and cold drinks to her customers.

Erica is the waitress at the Stray Sheep. A friendly sort, she often joins in the conversations of her customers. She, Vincent, Jonny, and Orlando all grew up together, and she always makes a point of stopping by their table and sharing the latest gossip. She's aware of Toby's crush on her, and she's more than a little amused by his puppy love.

--(From the official website)

PersonalityEdit

Erica Anderson is one of the main "features" of the Stray Sheep, as Boss has said many customers come in just to see her. Boss himself has made several advances on her, which she has forcefully and loudly rejected.

She is incredibly flirtatious and mischievous, and delights in leading Toby on and spreading rumors regardless of how true they are. She used to be much closer to Vincent and her friends, but has since drifted away due to them all growing up, something she laments. While she views romance in a traditionally "female" way most times, she also has traditionally "male" views, such as her unwillingness to settle down with just one guy.

During a conversation between Toby, Jonny, Orlando, Vincent and herself about who she'd be most likely to marry, she states in a clear-cut relationship, she'd pick Orlando, but she wouldn't marry him. She feels Jonny would treat her right, but she doesn't like the idea of being tied down to one guy. In the end, she picks Toby because of his enthusiasm and cuteness.

Though not initially a fan of women's wrestling, she's gotten into it since the bar focuses on that for their bets. She's enamored with the idea of powerful women.

HistoryEdit

Erica, Jonny, Orlando, Katherine and Vincent have all been friends since high school. During that time, she was hurt deeply in a relationship, and disappeared for a short time. Though everyone thought she had killed herself, in reality she was just staying at a friend's house until it blew over.

In the GameEdit

Erica is the source of all the rumors circulating about "The Woman's Wrath", and routinely stops at Vincent's table to spread the latest information on it. Toby takes every opportunity to flirt with her, which she plays with constantly. Though she is actually interested in him, she's reluctant to actually begin a relationship due to their difference in ages.

The rumors she starts about the witch in town get more and more outrageous, as she says the witch can't die and doesn't age. Then, she states the witch was a classmate of theirs, and went to the same school at the same time. She chides Vincent for not having a sense of romance in playing along. Later, she admits to Vincent that she herself is the witch, explaining that she added a bunch of stories from their youth to the rumors just for fun.

On the night of Day 6, she actually does begin a sexual relationship with Toby after he asks her out several times. Because of this, she begins to have the Nightmares that everyone else is complaining about, as she is preventing Toby from being in a relationship that could result in children.

Though her relationship with Vincent, Orlando and Jonny is platonic, she flirts briefly with Vincent, telling him she knows he sneaks a peek at her every so often. On Day 8, Erica seems to develop a very mild crush on Vincent, after his confrontation with Boss; she blushes and seems pleasantly startled at his sudden confidence.

Erica only appears in the Katherine True Ending, where it is revealed that she was called 'Eric' during school, showing that she was a tomboy, or literally a boy. (no confirmation either way) Toby seems to regret sleeping with her because of this, though it isn't explicitly stated whether they are still together or not.

There are several other instances during the game that her transgenderism is addressed:

  1. She expresses interest in joining a women's wrestling team, which Vincent states would be impossible. She misunderstands and says she's strong, but Vincent explains they wouldn't let her in in the first place.
  2. She tells Vincent he needs to learn how a girl's heart works and how a woman is always hoping someone will come sweep them away. Vincent tells her he'd be more convinced if a woman was telling him this.
  3. She begins to have nightmares, which are exclusively given to men.
  4. After discovering she was having nightmares, Toby comes to the conclusion that gender must not matter. Orlando retorts with: "I'm not so sure..."
  5. Jonny and Orlando both have extreme reactions when Toby professes his love for Erica, and when he loses his virginity to her.
  6. Toby explains sex with Erica was 'weird,' though he can't quite say why, since it was his first time.

Most of the time, everyone addresses her naturally as 'she,' and she shows a mild spike of anger when Vincent makes reference to her not being a woman.

Also, the game's manual lists the character's name as Eric Anderson (Erica) in the credits section.

TriviaEdit

  • Erica bears a strong resemblance to a couple fast food mascots. She shares the red hair, yellow clothes and red stripes of Ronald McDonald, and the red hair of Wendy's.
  • "Anderson" means "Son of Anders", which is derived from the Greek meaning "man" or "manly". This is likely another subtle nod to her original gender.
  • Erica's role as the "witch" possibly emerged from her sex change.
  • Erica's supposed death could be taken as the death of Eric the man, though the timing of both events is not known.
Significant plot details end here.

Unused DialogueEdit

  • Erica is one of the few characters that references Catherine's name. She differentiates between them by saying "C or K Katherine".
  • Erica is also the only one to use a pet name for Katherine; calling her 'Kat'.

  • If anything, learning about her being a transsexual just makes Erica that much more interesting to me. Kudos to this game for its awesome, awesome cast!

  • i thought s/he was just a tomboy.. lol..

  • Honestly... if Toby was able to have sex with her and only afterwards remark on it as "weird", the operation must have been amazingly well-done. Most certainly a 100% job.

S/he probably didn't disappear "to a friend's house" at all. I'd bet money s/he went to Thailand to get it done there. And yes, I'd tap that. Would be an insult to the surgeons not to.

  • homophobic naw yall just heterophobic

  • I was so delighted when I realized this. When she started having the nightmares too that;s when it hit me. Wow, they actually did it, they dropped a Bridget on the audience! That's so cool! Because you know, not many anime or video games have transgender characters. Especially none as wholesome as Erica, she's always been my favorite character. I knew the guys were expressing disdain toward her and Toby but I never thought this would be the reason why. I figured they only thought of her as a slut or something but then it all made sense. Honestly, I would love to be in Toby's shoes.

  • man, that's bullcrap. so all trans, gay, bi, lesbian relationships are doomed? i hate how that's basically what this game is trying to say.

    • Aren't you forgetting. That, in the end, the game points out that Demuzid's "plan" is totally wrong. I don't think the game delivers such a bad message at all, otherwise I shall feel offended too, don't you think? ^_-

  • Toby didn't realise she was trans until AFTER he slept with her? I know the guy's young and neive but you'd think he'd of clocked on sooner. I hope the two of them end up together. I'm so sick of stories about transexual relationships that end with the man saying "I don't mind that you used to be a dude, but it's best we break up to show the audiance that relationships don't always work out". Give trannies a break!

  • That's interesting that she's a transgender. I just interpreted all those hints as Vincent and the gang treating her like a guy, as in, she's always been one of them. Even calling her "Eric" as a joke. But I see now I was totally wrong. Again, just interesting.

  • anyone calling him a woman is just in denial and horny. anyone calling her a man is just queer and in denial.

Moral of the story - we'd all tap that.

  • a transgender anime character? who cares, not like you can notice. Just like how all anime male characters look like females with no body hair etc.

  • I thought Erica's character was a pretty good one, and that her relationship with the gang was fairly appropriate. It's in the nature of good friends to make fun of each other once and a while, i don't think that they meant anything particularly mean about it, it just shows how deep their friendship is. Side note: Erica is freaking hot.

  • Poor Toby. Kind of made me laugh though that he said he thought it felt kind of odd. XD You would think a man would know the difference.

  • Wow, only had the Good lovers Ending and had no idea Erica was born a male, but now that I think about it, it is right in your face througout the entire game. I thought this game was awesome, but now I just flat out have nothing but love and respect for the game. What other game talks about such realistic thing in society such as cheating, love and all that stuff. this game should be given much more attention that than its been getting

  • [SPOILER ALERT... although I guess there's no point, anymore. ^^] Hi, guys. I finished the game once and got the good lovers ending. Playing the game, I truly loved Erica's character. I'm an MtF, too. So, I was pleased to see us represented by a nice, deep character, with - in my opinion - a beautiful personality and lots of charisma, for a change... since almost every videogame or movie treat us like nothing more than laughing material. I was really happy about that. I understood she was an MtF pretty soon, because I started to suspect it near the beginning, when she said that she had a nice pair of Stiletto heels and that she knew how to use it. Not only that, but also the fact that she enjoyed to talk about women's psychology and feelings, willingly trying to explain them to the guys. Our femininity is something we're very proud of, so most of us like to talk about it and to explain some things, to those who are willing to listen. Then, I knew I was right, later on, thanks to the dialogues with and about her being filled with many hints. Some of them are kinda blunt, if you ask me, especially when Vincent told her that he would have preferred to here the words she said, coming from a woman. I thought "Geez... what an ass!", but still, without those hints, I guess nobody would have ever guessed that she's an MtF. Those hints made Erica's character even more interesting, entertaining and, from my point of view, charismatic. Then, I heard about the true lovers ending and the gag about Erica and Toby. Well, it tickled my curiosity and since I'm already playing the game for the second time and going for the true cheater ending, i just watched it on youtube. Well, maybe they're overexaggerating things, giving Erica a malish behavior that she doesn't have, during the game. (Although it's not just her: everyone seems to behave in a slightly different way, in this ending... maybe it's just the Champagne. ^^) But, what I truly think is that she's doing that on purpose, to pick on Toby. From my point of view, it's not Erica and her being an MtF that the developers wanted to laugh at, but Toby and his being too much carefree, daydreaming and soooo unconcerned by his friends' nightmares. Toby's not a bad person. He's got his own dreams, like anybody, and he seems to be the type that falls deeply in love, which is pretty cute. ^_^ But, throughout the whole game, he's kinda laughing at his friends problems, thinking that nothing will ever happen to him, that his life will be perfect, and he's not being of any help to them. So, I think the developers wanted to say "My little Toby, life is full of surprises and you can't decide how everything will turn out, on your own, whether you like it or not." ^_^ Anyway, Erica doesn't seem offended at all, by Toby's reaction. And, about him, despite what he says, he certainly does look comfortable with her arm around his neck. So, I think he's just acting this way, because he's a little upset about the fact that Erica kept her secret hidden from him, but he's still got the girl of his dreams. So, I think things will work out, for them. ^_-

Now, about people who think that Erica's behavior is unfair and that she shouldn't have kept it secret from Toby: well, let me tell you what i think. We are females, no matter the body we were born into, our gender identity is female. That's the way we feel, that's the way we think, that's the way we are, and it's not something that comes from some sexual fantasy. Simply, our mind and our body doesn't agree at all. They're in constant clash and we suffer a lot because of that. So, we put ourselves through a "transition" that even put our own health in danger, just to be able to be ourselves. It's either that or not living our lifes at all. So, when you're dating one of us, you're dating a girl. There's nothing to be afraid of: we're not gonna suddenly turn into boys, while you're sleeping. :-P We DO have one big issue, though: we are sterile. And that's the main reason why i think we should never keep it intentionally hidden in the first place, especially from someone you're starting dating. The other reason is that I think that sincerity is always the best base for a good relationship... but, well, it's my personal opinion. ^^ That said, i do understand why some of us prefer to keep it hidden. Some had really bad experiences in the past, that they want to forget about. So they don't want to tell others about it, because they fear that the same thing will happen again. (and it seems that Erica did have one of those experiences, and although it looks like she has overcome those bad memories, maybe a part of her tells her to be careful.) Then, there are other persons' clichés and prejudices that may force you to do so. I mean: when you're an MtF, you might have the chance to be surrounded by friends who knows and who accept you for who you are. They might even be very supportive. But, when it comes to love and romance, well it's game over before it even starts. You're cut off. They don't even give want to know you better. No matter how much a guy has a crush on you, as soon as he knows that you had once a male body, you stop meaning anything to him. You're the girl of his dreams, he would do anything for you, he's drooling all over the place and, five seconds later, you're as much as an empty can that has to be disposed of. So, that's why some of us want their boyfriends to know their worth, their good points, before telling them.

Now, to end, this veeeery long post, I just want to clarify one thing, about what I read in this topic: MtFs are females. Addressing us by "he" or saying things like "OMGZZZZ, it's a dude!" is offensive. I'm sure many of you just don't know and don't mean to be offensive... but, believe me, it's not nice at all. So, try to be kind, ok? ^_- Among the many comments, I read some very nice ones. Especially who tried to explain the difference between sex and gender identity. That's good to see, thanks! ^_^

    • Cool insight! I read your entire post and it's refreshing to see someone open about their experience, I know it's a risk considering all the ignorant and immature people out there. I'm glad you thought Erica was portrayed appropriately. And I love the line about her stiletto heels!

    • Honestly you made the most sense. I truly loved the way you viewed it.8D

    • Thanks, guys! ^_^ Yeah, it's a risk to be opened about my experience, but it's the only way to make things change a little bit. You know, where I live, there's no information at all about trans people and everyone tends to have a totally wrong idea about us. So, well, if we don't try our best to change this situation, nobody is going to do this for us. ^_-

    • I loved your post, and found it rewarding to read, so thank you :) I've been reading a lot of comments here and we all like to think of ourselves as a pretty tolerant bunch of people. Agreeing with everybody here that Erica is a hot chick and a cool character, but how would we all react in the same situation? I mean, I would like to think that my reaction would be "cool, okay, nothing to worry about", but I can't be certain.

If one of my friends wanted to change their gender, I would support them, but if one I dated said she used to be a dude......I'm not going to lie, but that would be hard to face. Would be interesting to talk to someone that has gone through that change sometime.

Again, loved your post and support your decision. Much respect.

    • That's my whole point of view, I'll probably date with you if I get to now you ;P

  • "... she begins to have the Nightmares that everyone else is complaining about, as she is preventing Toby from being in a relationship that could result in children. "

    This game seems awfully homophobic...

    • I think it's kinda neat that the trans character is treated as just a standard member of the group. And it's not that the narrative of the game suggests that the people in the dream deserve to be there or whatever.

    • I agree with the second person (the first to reply)

    • I don't agree. If anything, the characters in charge of the nightmares may be, but the game itself is all about freeing yourself up to live and love however you want.

  • .....Meh i'd still bang her/him.

    • Her. It's her. Don't be transphobic.

    • LOL How is that transphobic? That word and homophobic is thrown around so willy-nilly. I'm amazed that's it's transphobic to call someone a sHE.

    • I doubt OP meant anything malicious by it, but transgender people usually prefer their preferred gender's pronoun, and referring to them otherwise can be interpreted as malicious/mocking behavior.

    • I don't think he meant to offend, either. Unfortunately, how to properly address a trans person is not common knowledge, yet. So, please, let me explain: Immagine that since you're born, you feel and you behave as the opposite sex of your own birth gender. Your parents get mad at you all the time, your schoolmates bully you... your whole life is a mess and, at first, you don't even understand why: you're just yourself. Then, little by little, you begin to understand... and you feel totally scared: "Am I crazy?! Nobody has to know about this!". So you hide, you act like someone you're not. You suffer immensely. Your social and sentimental lives are garbage, because they're all based on the mask you're trying to wear, not your true self. Then, comes the time when you can't take it anymore. You have to be yourself, now! Or you'll end up committing suicide. So, you have to start transitioning. You've got a really big big step to climb, there, but you know you're life is up that step, so you give it all you've got: you go through coming out, psychotherapy, hormone replacement therapy that put your health at risk, laser, legal procedures, surgery... and, after or while you're doing all this, if someone addresses you, by using the wrong gender, believe me, it's painful. So, yup, Erica is a SHE, and she's surely being through a lot to bring her body and soul back together, so be nice to her! ^_-

  • With all due respect to those who think that a Sex change alters ones gender, while it may alter the shape of the human body it does not change the fact that the persons SOUL is that of a male, try explaining to saint peter why he should let you into heaven after you defied the BIBLE by LAYING WITH ANOTHER MAN if you have with one who had their body altered to another gender and possibly married one, those who feel this an ignorant response consider what I have said about Soul Gender being unchangable and know that this Command would not have been written if its purpose was not of value in comparison to its lack, if you are curious ask saint peter on your judgement day why this was placed in the bible regardless of the life you've lived I'm sure you'll get an answer. Also its quite possible Erica(Eric) suffered a traumatic breakup and attempted to use altering the Sexual appearance of His body to escape that pain with the false impression that this choice correct due to false impressions made by unstable thoughts in the delicate state of mind a traumatic break up often produces, I've seen worse things happen in such a state and similar.

    • the fuck are you even saying

    • Souls having genders seems rather pointless to me, as I'm fairly sure souls don't procreate, and therefore don't need something like that. I don't personally believe in souls, but if I did, I'd like to think they are the embodiment of a human's personality and core. Our bodies are but a shell to carry them.

Of course, I'm sure some believe that their soul IS a particular gender, one that doesn't match the body they have. I don't think that's impossible either. What's wrong with trying to match it? =)

    • Ah geez, I just knew somebody would drag religion into this. Its only a video game, so get over it.

    • congrats you are over thinking a VIDEO GAME!!! oh btw nobody wants to hear someone religious views...

    • My whole thing is at least let a person know that you had a change at some point (not to mention that sHE seems to have zero indication of male features [but Erica did inform the guy of the change so kudos]).

    • I think Erica's would basically agree with you, excep that she would argue that her soul is female.

    • thx for bringing some stupid religious stuff on a game wiki...

    • The souls having genders part I can kind of understand being slightly relevant to the topic of Erica once being a man, but the part about people that have undergone sex changes not being allowed into the heaven written about in your bible? That is completely irrelevant to the topic that the rest of the posters have commented on.

I'm pretty sure the rest of us don't really give a flying fuck about your religious stand point on a part of the game. I, for example, would love it if I could read intelligent comments about a subject, without having to skim past a lengthy post from a religious nut that thinks the rest of us care.

    • I don't believe soul's are defined by gender. How could anyone define what a soul is at all? I'm not going to dig up any more religious muck the OP brought up I just don't want to get into that since it's already been discussed to death.

    • .....get over yourself......

    • Funny how people say he's overthinking the game with his comment when everyone else is looking into the minutest detail of the game concerning the endings and different characters. Freaking hypocrites.

    • OP's not overthinking it, as that would imply that he was thinking at all. Just ignore him- he's just one more uneducated bigot out of who knows how many. It's not like he cares what you think anyhow- in his mind, he's right and nothing you can say can change his mind about it.

In unrelated news, TYPING IN ALL CAPS and Random Capitalization makes you look like the Time Cube guy.

    • I don't think Catherine is the game for you.

  • I wasn't originally gonna comment here, but I figured I'd balance out all the negative comments (which are just ridiculous and full of ignorance) and say: Erica is fucking awesome, and easily one of my favorite characters in this game! I'm a little disappointed to see her marked as male in the concept art page, but I'm guessing they're just referring to her birth sex. (Or maybe they accidentally switched hers and Boss's, who's marked as a woman. Lol!) When it comes down to it, I really don't think gender/sex has any weight in someone's personality or character. Not saying it doesn't sculpt that to a degree, though - it certainly does - but you are who you are, despite your physical appearance.

    • EDIT: also disappointed that she is put as 'Eric'. I assumed she had gone through all the process already and changed her name legally and everything.

    • I thought it was kind of ignorant to refer to her as Eric, but maybe it's for the slower gamers who didn't understand the hints. Yeah, Erica is fucking awesome!

  • I don't see any indicators from anything said here or elsewhere to prove definitively that Erica was born a man. I see indicators that Erica could have been intersex, but not a man. In addition, Toby's statement of thinking he was hallucinating during sex kinda suggests Erica may still have a certain male sex organ.

Alternately, if everything in this article is to be believed, it claims that Erica was put into the trials to prevent her from potentially having kids with Toby. It would take quite a bit more for Erica to have a fully-functioning female reproductive system that would be needed for her to have a child, if she wasn't born with that functionality.

    • I think the biggest indication that she was born a man is the fact she was called 'Eric' in high school, and is now called 'Erica'. The game doesn't dig into gritty details of everything that happens, but that's a heavy implication she was a man, and now is a woman. And all Toby said was that there was something weird about it - I'm sure a 23 year old knows what genitalia a man and woman should have, so if I Erica still had male organs, I don't think Toby would be confused about what that meant.

I think you misread the article regarding the reason she had Nightmares; it wasn't to keep her from having kids, it was because she was keeping Toby from having kids. Erica cannot have children, but Toby wants them....the fact that she is involving herself in a relationship with him is denying Toby from finding a fertile woman who can have children; that's the reason Boss chose her.

  • Why is being a transexual so gross? There is NO difference between a post-op transexual and a born woman aside from the inability to give birth. You'd NEVER know unless they told you and there are plenty of genetic or other diseases that prevent birth. Leave her alone, she's adorable!

    • Well said -- Erica is awesome :)

    • Well I think it's sick. Still like the character but I'd never be in a romantic relationship with someone who's transgender. I'm just stating my opinion so don't act like a jerk. Sorry had to say that cause some people are just like that.

  • OMG i feel so stupid that i didnt notice all this after beating the game 4 times already but now it all lines up! Man what a boner kill.

    • im just as shocked as everyone else is....GOD dang it they should of dug more into this! now im curious about this. i seriously paid no mind to the little smart remarks about erica's gender. i thought they were just messing around...could this be the reason why vincint doesnt want to date erica?

  • you'd think she would have told toby before letting him bang her (i understand why his friends didn't, tell him), even though she is a female now, that still seems like something you should tell someone (he took it way better than most people would though)

    • I think this could perhaps be the reason she was experiencing nightmares, rather than what the article here claims.

    • Well -- you have to remember who is giving the nightmares. Dumuzid and Ishtar don't care if you're truthful to your partner, they only care if you can biologically reproduce.

  • Um, i'm confused. Erica's a chick and a dude!?

  • gender does NOT matter if you are REALLY in love with someone :D

  • She's way to pretty to be a former man I mean really most transexual operations make people look ugly for their new sex.
